Who killed the game we love?

‘Not me’ said the club owner as he rubbed his hands together. ‘I run a business. Football is a business. Don’t ever forget that. Without my money there would be no football club. Be grateful I’m here at all’.

‘Not me’ said the leech of an agent. ‘Football is a business and my client sells his commodity to the highest bidder. It’s my job to represent the best interests of my client. Don’t blame me’.

‘Not me’ said the greedy player. ‘I love (insert name here) and want to stay here for the rest of mky career. If the club refuse to match my ambition (which is to earn my body weight in gold for each hour I draw breath) I will have no choice but to leave.’

‘Not me’ said the put upon stooge of a manager. ‘I was called in here to do a job. I’ve had a word with Mike and he assures me 110% that I won’t be selling Andy Carroll before this deadline. Or any other deadline for that matter. There’s a great team spirit here and I’m starting to get them onside. Definitely. Kevin Nolan’s a great lad, so is Joey Barton. They like me, I like them’.

Andy Carroll, another in a long line of those allowed to leave. Macdonald, Beardsley, Waddle, Gascoigne… ad nauseum.
