Newcastle United have had a mixed season so far, but it’s fair to say that the emergence of Sean Longstaff has been a real highlight under Rafael Benitez. Given a chance due to somewhat of a midfield crisis, Longstaff was unexpectedly given a run in the first team at Newcastle – and he certainly proved that he belonged.
In the weeks thereafter, Longstaff remained in the fold at St. James’ Park, despite the return to fitness of some of the other players in the Newcastle squad.
Indeed, he featured against Wolves on Monday, and he put in another good shift. Hee’s commanding and combative in the midfield, and in truth, he’s the sort of player that we’ve lacked for a while. Is he the finished article? Certainly not, but the homegrown talent is showing a lot of promise.
It’s @alanshearer‘s Matchweek 26 Team of the Week

Unsurprisingly, then, he’s a popular man amongst Newcastle fans, and so his exclusion from Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week has not gone down well among supporters.
Indeed, the Premier League recently shared Shearer’s team, and many fans have taken to Twitter to question the club hero…
