Some Newcastle United fans accused owner Mike Ashley of creating “PR stunts” as the latest report surrounding the club’s takeover emerged.
The retail tycoon is a very unpopular figure on Tyneside due to a number of poor decisions that he has made while he’s been the majority shareholder at St James’ Park, including his renaming of the stadium to the Sports Direct Arena and his treatment of former manager Kevin Keegan, which led to his resignation.
Will this takeover go through?
Yes
No
With the club on the verge of being sold to a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and backed by Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers, the Daily Mail revealed that Ashley was ready to confirm the £300m sale last week, before PIF insisted on a delay until the deal was completed.
With this in mind, supporters believed that Ashley was up to no good once again with the lack of trust towards him still present. One fan questioned Ashley by asking “when has he ever wanted to keep the fans updated”.
Always knew Ashley was there for us

Suddenly Ashley’s word is golden? Like when he says “if it’s leaked to the media it’s not happening”. When has he EVER wanted to keep the fans updated.

Someone should tell Ashley he’s done enough damage and no PR stunts are gonna repair it.
