“Pointless tweet” – A lot of Newcastle fans are annoyed with Luke Edwards for his tweet on the racist abuse that England’s players suffered last night.
England played Bulgaria in Sofia, and the match was stopped twice because of racist chanting directed towards Tyrone Mings and Raheem Sterling.
England continued the game and ended up winning 6-0.
After the game though Edwards, bizarrely, decided to mention the behaviour of England’s fans in recent times.
This has not gone down well with many Toon fans on Twitter who feel that Edwards is trying to deflect the blame onto the England fans.
England have some terrible fans, and there has been trouble in some recent games, but to try and claim that the England fans in some way caused the racist abuse is ridiculous.
The abuse suffered by England’s players was down to the uneducated morons who spouted it and no one else.
Certainly, these Newcastle fans are confused by Luke Edwards’ claims.
See the best of the reaction below.
An important point. Does not in anyway excuse racist abuse from Bulgarian fans that followed but a reminder we do not always endear ourselves to our hosts. https://t.co/Th0YgJh1wd

So if the anthems had been respected there’d of been no nazi salutes or monkey noises from the home end from the lads with their faces covered?

The Bulgarian fans done the exact same during our national anthem, ridiculous comment.

That has to be the least important “important point” I’ve ever seen be made.

What an absolutely nothing tweet this is… why are you trying to find a way to shift the blame?
