A lot of Newcastle fans do not believe a report in the Daily Telegraph that claims Sean Longstaff has to prove himself over the next year to earn a new contract with improved terms.
The 22-year-old, valued at £16.2m, just signed a new deal last December, and apparently, the Toon hierarchy do not want to give him a new contract yet.
However, his younger brother Matty has agreed a new contract, and that should be announced soon.
This will mean that we have sealed the futures of Martin Dubravka and Matty Longstaff in quick succession – which is positive.
Do you think Sean Longstaff will sign a new deal this season?
Yes, we need to secure his future
No, he hasn't done enough to earn a big wage increase
It would be brilliant to get Sean tied down to a deal that better reflects his ability as well, but getting Matty sealed will be another positive step in a season that has transformed since we were humiliated by Leicester City.
These Toon fans, though, do not believe that Sean won’t sign a new deal as well as Matty.
See the best of the reaction below.
Newcastle United’s young midfielder Matty Longstaff will sign a new contract in the next few weeks but older brother Sean has been told he needs to do more to earn a second new deal in the space of 12 months. [Telegraph] #NUFC

What a load of rubbish by the Telegraph, I am sure Newcastle are happy to let Sean’s contract run out if he doesn’t prove himself in the next 12 month lol He will sign one asap too.

Many Newcastle fans think that the club will give Sean a new contract.
I quite like this whether it’s true or not. He only recently got a better deal and he’s looked OK this season but that’s it. This kind of stance should keep a top prospect hungry.
Of course it might be conjecture.

Other Magpies supporters, though, feel that Sean has not done enough to earn a new deal yet.
