Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric wants his ex-Pompey midfielder Amdy Faye back at Fratton Park, but his hopes of going cap-in-hand to Freddy Shepherd will be dashed before he gets within hearing distance.

Harry Redknapp was always a fan of Faye when he was manager at Portsmouth, but we all know about his move to the neighbours down the road. During which time Faye moved to St James’ Park.

Mandaric said today: ‘I haven’t had that much time to speak to Harry about players but I know that he likes Amady Faye. It’s Harry’s call, and I will support him when the time comes.’

But Mandaric wants another loan deal, like the ones that took Laurent Robert and Lomana Lua Lua to Fratton Park.

Shepherd: ‘If Portsmouth, or anyone else for that matter, want any of our players in January then they will have to put their money on the table.’

The Senegalese international joined Pompey from Auxerre for £1.5m in August 2003 before switching to United in the transfer window in January for £2m.
