Premier League legend and pundit Gary Neville has revealed that Newcastle are one of three clubs he would have joined if he left Manchester United during his career.
While speaking to Geoff Shreeves for Sky Sports for the Off Script podcast, he discussed the three teams he wouldn’t turn out for – Leeds United, Liverpool and Manchester City – while revealing three who he would play for.
Nowadays, Neville is at the pinnacle of the punditry scene within English football, being a regular on all of Sky Sports’ Premier League content.
However, it can be easy to forget just how much of a great player he was.
The right-back went onto make 400 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, as well as 85 caps for his country, in a career spanning nearly 20 years.
The one-club man says he was lucky enough to be able to stay at the club he has always loved. After he was given a five-year deal at 28, he realised that he would probably not play elsewhere, but he says if he had to leave at that stage of his career, there are three clubs that he’d seriously consider.
He said (via The Chronicle): “If Sir Alex had said at 28 I had to go, I’d have said Newcastle, Arsenal and Aston Villa were the three clubs would be the ones (I’d have gone to).
Mark Douglas from the Chronicle tweeted about the ex-player’s quotes, to which many responded to with their personal opinions.

NUFC is still a huge draw for managers and players alike.

Top lad! If we had an ambitous owner & top manager we’d be one of the top clubs in Europe imo #nufc
