Steve Bruce is the man the club want as the next manager but he may cost £5million in compensation, according to The Times (also reported by The Chronicle).

They claim he has asked Sheffield Wednesday for permission to speak to Newcastle about becoming their new manager.

Bruce asked Dejphon Chansiri, the Wednesday chairman and owner, to be allowed to discuss the vacant role at his boyhood club but, the Championship side are reluctant to grant him his wish.

The 58-year-old returned to management in February when he took over the Owls and The Times believe that a compensation clause of more than £5 million was included in his contract.

Bruce appears to be improving as a manager with each job he takes, according to Transfermarkt he has achieved 1.61 points per game while in his current job, compared to 1.60 in his previous role at Aston Villa. Before that, he achieved 1.47 points per game while at Hull and 1.16 as Sunderland boss.

Despite the marked improvement, the Newcastle supporters do not believe spending £5million on him would be considered as value for money, some took to Twitter to share their opinions.

One sarcastically stated he is ‘worth every penny’ whilst another added ‘we’d be mad’ to appoint him for that much money.

  • Following eleven years of dealing with this cheapskate manipulator, it’s time the fans realised the only answer is to get rid of him.
    HOW ?
The only way is to present an empty or as near an empty stadium as possible which assures a large loss of revenue which will be recognised by Ashley, in fact the only thing that hurts would be a loss of profit.
especially if shown on tv, however obviously the fans would rather go watch a crap team lose constantly as they are
    fixated on NUFC.
HOWEVER THE ONLY ANSWER IS A BOYCOTT, WHICH WILL NEVER HAPPEN, BEING FOLLOWING ELEVEN YEARS OF ASHLEY, THEY HAVE DONE NOWT TO INDICATE THEY HAVE THE COJONES FOR A BOYCOTT.

  • A total boycott of all games will get rid of Ashley. Talk about “fit and proper person”? The FA is more of a shambles than NUFC
