Newcastle United have been knocked back in an enquiry involving highly-rated West Bromwich Albion attacking midfielder Graham Dorrans, it has emerged.

The 22-year-old Glasgow-born player has been in stellar form for the Baggies, and it is said that the Magpies turned their attentions to him after failing in an ambitous bid to land Crystal Palace forward Victor Moses.

However, despite their valiant efforts WBA are adamant about selling their prized-asset to their promotion rivals, and a deal has been ruled out completely.

The Toon are also monitoring the progress of former player Darren Ambrose who now plys his trade in Crystal Palace, and may test the Administration-hit club with a £800,000 bid.
