The matches kicked-off with Preston carrying forward a League Cup upset against Premier League side Bournemouth forward with a one-nil win against Wigan, which also saw a reaction to a five-nil defeat at Brentford in the last Championship outing.

As for the Bees they lost at Wolves, who followed up a win at Newcastle last weekend with another win at Molineux against Brentford.

Brighton’s return to form, following a (rare) recent Amex Stadium defeat continued with Barnsley seen off two-one at the Amex with that same scoreline seeing Blackburn securing a second successive Championship win when they won at Derby, who continue to find the going (surprisingly) tough under Nigel Pearson since he took over at the iPro Stadium.

The going isn’t tough for Bristol City this season with the Robins coming away from Fulham with an impressive four-nil win at Craven Cottage with Norwich’s League Cup win at Everton following up with a three-one win at Carrow Road against Burton.

Another side, well two sides in fact, from the Premier League last season were Aston Villa and Newcastle with them playing out a one-all draw at Villa Park with leaders Huddersfield (who have won at Newcastle this season and drawn at Villa) beaten one-nil at Reading who continue to turn things round under Jaap Stam.

Leeds are also ‘turning things round’ with another win secured, Ipswich were this time beaten with a one-nil win secured at Elland Road by Garry Monks side.

A much needed three-points was also claimed by Cardiff when they came away from the New York Stadium with a potentially job saving (for Paul Trollope) two-one win at Rotherham, with the Millers’ struggles continuing.
