Sean Longstaff’s rise has been incredible to watch. He’s gone from not even being in the Newcastle squad to being a core part of Rafael Benitez’s team within a matter of months, and that’s pretty remarkable.
It’s likely that most in Newcastle didn’t even know his name this time last year, yet now, he’s one of the most popular players at St. James’ Park.
His rise is, however, perhaps most shocking to the man himself, and that’s been highlighted by what he’s had to say after the Magpies’ win over Burnley.
Discussing his last few months, as per the official Newcastle Twitter, he said: “It’s been pretty strange. You get noticed a little bit – even the man dropping shopping off at your house recognises you!” See the full interview below.

Longstaff’s feet are firmly still on the ground, and that’s great to see. It would be easy for him to get caught up in the craziness that has been his rise, but he clearly recognises that he’s got a lot more growing still to do.
Make no mistake, if he continues to perform as he has been, far more people than the man that drops off his shopping will be recognising him.
