“Useless”, “Way past his best” – These NUFC fans react to club post

|

A few Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after the club shared that Lee Mason will take charge of Sunday’s Premier League match at Arsenal.

We are contesting one of six fixtures due to be played this weekend having sat out the first week of the winter break, and will travel to the Emirates Stadium looking to extend our eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

To do so, we will need to record our first win away to the Gunners since November 2010, with the North London side winning on each of our last seven visits.

Not only will head coach Steve Bruce need to terminate a dire run of form at the Emirates Stadium, but the boss will also have to achieve our first win of the season with Mason in control of proceedings.

Mason has already held the whistle in two of our league games this term, which saw Aston Villa beat the Magpies 2-0 at Villa Park in November and Everton leave St. James’ Park on the back of a 2-1 win in December.

United had gone unbeaten in our previous five games with the Bolton-born official in the middle, who has formerly cast his verdict over one fixture involving Arsenal and Newcastle that ended 4-1 in the Gunners’ favour.

What will the result be at Arsenal on Sunday?

Sunday’s clash in North London will be Mason’s 13th Premier League fixture of the campaign, while the 48-year-old has issued 46 yellow cards, one red and awarded two penalty kicks over his previous outings.

Assistants Ian Hussin, Harry Lennard and fourth official Andy Madley will join Mason at the Emirates Stadium, while Kevin Friend and assistant Stephen Child will be overseeing VAR duties.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted, mostly negatively, to news that Mason will take charge of Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal…

In other Newcastle United news, a £20m midfielder’s agent has confirmed his client would consider joining the Magpies this summer.
