With the January transfer window closure fast approaching, the need for extra bodies hasn’t been as desperate as other seasons but the talk has been of our interest in getting one or two deals done.

With nothing but paper talk to fill the time taken up by the passing of tumbleweed, one thing happened today that guarantees at least one player will be added to our last named squad.

In fact there could even be two players ‘coming in’

As stated yesterday, the correct scenario of scores in the African Nations Cup would see two of our players go head to head in the next knock out round with the losing side’s player then able to return to his home club.

Ghana, who had already been guaranteed a qualifying place faced Egypt knowing that a defeat would see them face Congo in the next round.

As Christian Atsu plays for Ghana and Chancel Mbemba plays for Congo then one of these players will definitely be back home before the window shuts.

There could even be two if Mo Diame’s Senegal lose to Cameroon in their next game on Saturday.

Of all the players, Diame has the best chance of being in our squad for our next league game next Wednesday if his side lose but it’ll probably be too short a space between games for any of our Sunday losers.

Regardless, the ACoN finishes next weekend and then all this confusion over availability will be over and maybe an addition or two in the transfer market to boot.
