We may not have won for a while but the majority of us never expected this season to be easy in what is generally just a target of survival.

The Crystal Palace game being the last time three points went our way but we’ve not been without many chances of doing better in most of our games.

In this six game spell without a win, the games against Watford, Chelsea and Man Utd may have been deserved losses but we could and maybe should have got more out of the West Brom, Bournemouth and Burnley games.

The lack of signing quality players or really spending any money at all has been the main talk about this run as the squad suffers with injuries but there’s some good news seemingly ahead after Rafa Benitez gave an update in his press conference at the weekend.

The interview which was seen in part on Sky Sports News and available on the official NUFC website included Rafa updating us that Christian Atsu and Paul Dummett were close to being available and he even said after the Chelsea game that they nearly made that one, so they should be in the squad for the next game.

Jamaal Lascelles is another that is close to a comeback with this week supposedly all about him rejoining training and staking a claim to captain us in our 125 year anniversary game against Leicester.

It certainly would be a boost to add arguably our player of the season in Lascelles as well as strengthen the left hand side with Dummett and Atsu but we’ll find out at the weekend.
