Many Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter after Jamie Carragher claimed that Martin Dubravka is the reason why the club are not in the midst of a relegation dogfight.

The Chronicle posted a story about the former Liverpool players’ words, with the Sky Sports pundit saying that he is probably as big of an influence on the club as any goalkeeper is in the league.

Considering the reputation the Slovakian goalkeeper has on Tyneside, many Newcastle fans couldn’t help but agree, with some even suggesting that it was not even worth mentioning as it is so obvious.

Which manager is older?

Dubravka has undoubtedly had a top season for the club. The 31-year-old, rated at £6.3m by Transfermarkt – though it would be foolish to think any club could get him for that – has kept nine clean sheets so far this season, the joint fifth-highest in the whole division.

Even with that impressive clean sheet record, the club finds themselves towards the bottom of the Premier League with nine games to go, but do have eight points on the relegation zone. Furthermore, they also have four teams in between them and the drop with Bruce’s side sitting in 13th – and Dubravka has undoubtedly played a key role in that.

Plenty of fans responded to the article when it was posted by the Chronicle’s Newcastle dedicated account, as you can read below…
