It looks like speculation linking Andros Townsend with a return to St James’ Park this month was wide of the mark.

As deadline day has progressed the possibility of a late move for Townsend continued to feature highly in the press, but that speculation is now presumably over given the fact that Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has named our former player on the bench for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Dean Court tonight.

It was said that Townsend’s deal would be a loan with a view to a permanent deal over the summer should promotion back to the Premier League this year be attained, but in the matchday squad for their game tonight and I just don’t see how it’s feasible for a deal to be in anyway likely now before the deadline shuts at 11pm.

Stranger things have happened in the game but not that strange.

With earlier speculation about a loan move for Tim Krul to Watford, it’s now being reported by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf that with a ‘ridiculously long’ medical process, instead AZ Alkmaar have now come in and agreed a deal so he’ll spend the second half of the year with them as he looks to build his fitness following injury.
