Injuries to key players, and transfer targets dropping like flies. We were indeed in a mess. But along came Rossi, and the kid thought he was onto a winner.

Fabulous crowd, the biggest stage … and the tempter … regular first team football. But something has gone wrong for the 19-year old, so far at least. But he hasn’t given up hope.

Rossi: “People might say there is a gap at Old Trafford with Ruud going and because we haven`t bought a new forward. A permanent move to Newcastle is not on my mind at all. On my mind is to play for United.

“The important thing now is to do well for Newcastle and give 100 per cent here, then go back stronger to Old Trafford. Loan spells are usually beneficial. They have been for a few players at United. They came back to the club stronger.

“Hopefully, it will be the same for me.”
