Report: Newcastle United hope to fill squad void with out of window deal for young talent

|

Newcastle United have agreed a deal with League Two outfit Morecombe for youth talent Kyle Crossley, according to the Chronicle.

The Toon will pay an undisclosed sum for the youngster, though the fee could rise should the forward go on and earn a senior contract at St. James’ Park.

United chiefs have strived to finalise the out of window deal in a bid to ease concerns over the lack of players aged between 18 and 21 in our development squads, and comes after Irish teenager Oisin McEntee was drafted into the senior fold.

McEntee has been training with the first-team as a result of Ciaran Clark’s ankle injury, with boss Steve Bruce keen to use the 6 ft 3 centre-half as another body in drills at Darsley Park.

It is not assumed that Crossley would be awarded a similar role and will instead enter the Under 18s squad for next season, where he will play alongside recent additions Reagan Thomson from Queen’s Park and Arsenal’s Stan Flaherty.

The club are currently said to be satisfied with the progress seen from those in the U15s and U16s, but felt there was a void in the U18s that had to be filled.

Crossley has previously spent time in Hartlepool Town’s youth set-up before heading to Morecombe, having needed to find a new club when Pools restructured their academy.

Crossley is also now represented by the Base Soccer Agency, which represents on-loan Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose as well as Dele Alli, Leicester City’s James Maddison, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Liverpool-owned Bournemouth winger Harry Wilson.
