Newcastle United have opened talks to sign highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso for a fee north of £10 million, but are keeping tabs on Fiorentina enforcer Marco Donadel should the Portuguese player’s move fall through, reports The Daily Mail.

The Magpies are understood to have agreed a fee of £4 million for Donadel, 25, but are yet to finalise the deal as Veloso entered the fray, and averted their attentions from the Italian.

The Toon are waiting for Bolton skipper Kevin Nolan to agree personal terms, and join – subject to a medical, today. The fee is believed to be £3 million plus add-ons.
