Imagine the scene…
The season is underway and our quick return to the dizzy heights of the Premiership has so far surprised us with a 100% record in our first five games, exceeding all of our wildest dreams. Next up is the rough and tumble of Stoke City, but with an influx of fleet-footed and sublimely talented attacking players, we`ve become the Spain of the British game and roll them over with consummate ease.
OK, so that`s not likely to happen. Which is why it`s easier to bear the thought that I won`t be there. So where will I be instead, you ask?
On the 26th September at 4.10pm, I`ll be approximately somewhere between Hull and Boston. Hopefully, a lot closer to Boston. Not with any disrespect to Hull, although that would probably be fair. Or because Boston is a particularly attractive location.
No, the reason I`d like to be closer to Boston at the exact time on the 26th September, is that it`s the third stop-off point on my mammoth charity bike ride from Newcastle to London. Riding for Breast Cancer Campaign with friends, colleagues, mentalists from work, I`ll be covering roughly 450 miles in 5 days, starting from our Newcastle office and finishing at our London office.
We`re aiming to raise £20,000 for charity, which seems like a lot but with two months to go, we`re making a determined effort to push on to the target and hope everyone can give it some thought.
We`re hoping for some corporate sponsorship, so if anyone is an a position to help, the group is prepared to mention company names in press releases, on the website and via social networking. Hell, we`ll even sweat in some t-shirts. But sponsorship from individuals is what can really make the difference and certainly means more to those of us completing the ride.
We`re currently setting up a website, so that anyone can track the progress (or lack of it) that we make on a daily basis. In the meantime, we have a JustGiving site set up –
