Toon Interested In World Cup Star

Newcastle are being linked with a surprise move for Fulham left-back, Antonee Robinson. [TeamTalk].

The USA international has attracted a lot of admirers with his displays in his country’s run to the last 16 at the World Cup, and Newcastle are now ready to make a move for the 25-year-old.

Robinson is definitely the type of player that Eddie Howe would be interested in signing. Still young, and with bags of Premier League experience, the former Wigan man has all of the attributes that the Newcastle boss looks for in his fullbacks.

Robinson has made 13 appearances in Fulham’s impressive start to the season and was an ever-present for the USA in Qatar, including a fine performance in the 0-0 draw with England.

The attacking left-back started his career with Everton but would ultimately make his breakthrough with two loan spells in the lower divisions. Having spent time on loan at Bolton and then Wigan, he would eventually sign permanently for the latter in 2019, before making the move to Fulham just a year later.

Newcastle currently have Matt Targett, Jamal Lewis, and Paul Dummett as left-back options, but Howe has instead used centre-back Dan Burn in the position in recent times. Lewis was likely to be moved on in January anyway, but the arrival of Robinson would cast doubt on recent signing Targett’s future on Tyneside.
