Sky Sports reckon that Newcastle have held talks with Jonjo Shelvey of Swansea City.

Whilst Sky generally hide behind their ‘sources say’ spiel in order to protect any made up stories, this one seems to have been on the rumour mill for some time.

It is believed that no bid has been made yet but figures around the £10 million maek have been mooted although with Shelvey’s stock falling by his poor form, a lower fee wouldn’t surprise.

Shelvey was involved in some arguments earlier with Swansea fans after he was branded lazy and on viewing the game, he lacked effort and seemed not interested in being there, so maybe that’s down to our interest.

Swansea boss Alan Curtis reacted to the speculation by saying:

I’ve tried to speak to him and his attitude has always been in question, but he just wants to play and he gets frustrated if he is not in the team.

If he is in the team he is not a problem at all, if he is not in the team he can be a bit more difficult to manage. He doesn’t come to you, you pull him in and find out when he is thinking about.

Swansea fans have had their say recently about Shelvey on social media by branding him overweight, lazy and various other nasties but this could be down to the usual banter of fans hating one of their own leaving.

With Shelvey only playing three games in the premier league in the last three months, there could be something sinister there after all although the club have distanced themselves from troublemakers over the past few years so we’ll see.
