‘Too good for other clubs not to look at’ – Some fans react to interest in Newcastle duo

|

Some Newcastle supporters have been reacting on social media after the Chronicle claimed West Ham United are interested in signing Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey.

The East London outfit are only likely to bid for one of the pair, though, who Irons club insider ExWHUemployee had suggested were being scouted ahead of the summer window.

Should they opt for Shelvey, however, we may still lose Hayden, as the Chronicle add that Brighton & Hove Albion have long-held an interest in the defensive midfielder, and Aston Villa could make a move if they secure promotion via the Play-Offs on Monday.

Hayden has also requested the club sanction his sale this year, after being denied a move a year ago, despite handing in a transfer request so that he can move closer to his family as his daughter requires regular medical attention.

The 24-year-old has been forced to drive several hundreds of miles back and forth this season so that he can spend time with his family and still play for our club, and may feel a move to East London will suit his personal needs more adequately.

Should the Hammers play on that, it is expected that we will demand at least £15million, as he become a mainstay of Rafa Benitez’s starting XI after returning to the side on Boxing Day. We will also seek to secure a replacement for the Arsenal product before sanctioning his exit.

Shelvey, on the other hand, has been a long-term target of the London Stadium natives, and could be sold in the summer window if a substantial offer comes our way.

If Hayden goes first, though, it is thought Shelvey may be offered another chance at St James’ Park as Mo Diame is also departing once his contract expires next month.

And when the Chronicle’s article on West Ham’s interest in our defensive midfield duo was shared on Reddit, here’s how these Magpies supporters reacted…
