Just over a week has passed since the shock death of former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote and a memorial service was held in his honour today.

With no real news to suggest the medical reasons for Tiote’s death at such a young age in 30, the club that he was employed by in China, Beijing Enterprises FC, paid their respects with the service.

With family, former and his club teammates in attendance including our former striker Papiss Cisse, the service was full of obvious emotion.

Cisse said his bit on Tiote by declaring: I lived some extraordinary moments with this man and today he`s gone.

Tiote only left us in February and most of the mystery surrounding the passing is that there is focus on why a medical didn’t pick anything up if there was a heart issue as well as talk that his Chinese club didn’t have adequate medical equipment to deal with his collapse.

The Ivorian played here for six and a half years, playing 156 games and scoring that famous goal against Arsenal.
