Against a backdrop of the most inactive and lacklustre window ever, Newcastle United’s not so desperate search for incomings is hardly surprising.

It’s only the likes of the papers and Sky that big it up so much which in turn cause confusing thoughts when it doesn’t turn out as they insinuate.

Add to this the fact that we have either Christian Atsu or Chancel Mbemba available to return to the club after their African Nations Cup game against each other at the weekend and Mo Diame if his Senegal side go out to Cameroon but even at the worst case scenario and aside from the definite one returnee, all three of the chosen ACoN players will be available to return when the cup ends next weekend.

In these final 133 hours(as we speak) of the January transfer window, the clubs who have players available for permanent transfer will then entertain the idea of a loan to save on wages and for that reason if we really have Rafa Benitez in control of the ins and outs then there’ll be concrete movement in the next 100 hours as there’s no way he’ll allow the day before a league game to be taken up by being in some office in the dark sending faxes and playing up for the last day deadline cameras.

Wednesday 1st February seeing us face QPR at home in the league.

Some of us may think it’s a desperate situation but spare a thought for those on SSN who somehow have to drag a full day’s coverage out of tumbleweed blowing past and against the modern day slant that has been brought to the working mans game, most managers will say it’s so difficult for varying reasons to do what they want in January.

For that reason, surely the last rites have to be called on the window soon.
