With Leicester having already rejected two bids for James Maddison by Newcastle, it now seems their are firmly digging their heels in and demanding that he is not for sale at any price, despite recent reports speculating that an offer of £60m would be enough to tempt the Foxes into selling.
We know that Newcastle have other targets and that Eddie Howe himself has said that they “will not stop” looking for the right players to come in, but who is next on the list remains to be seen. Ross Barkley was a name mentioned recently, so we will wait and see on that one.
Should Newcastle Finally Listen To The Fans And Go For Paqueta?
Yes Yes Yes
No - They must have their reasons
Fans have their ideas and they’ve been saying it since the transfer window opened – Lucas Paqueta. It is believed that the Brazilian wants to leave Lyon and would definitely welcome the chance to be reunited with this best mate, Bruno Guimaraes. That alone has had Newcastle fans connecting the dots and convincing themselves that the deal is there to be done. Many fans are truly baffled that Newcastle would waste time bidding up to £50m for Maddison when Paqueta could be picked up for £37m and is much more nailed-on deal.
Newcastle themselves have never declared an interest in Paqueta beyond admitting he has quality. Whether they look at the deal now with Maddison seemingly off the table remains to be seen. We know the hierarchy want to please the fans, but just how much will they listen to them when it comes to transfers, we just don’t know. You have to remember they have access to a lot more information than we do, both in terms of what their own plans are and how certain players would fit into said plans.
“Patience is a virtue” was Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s message a few weeks back, and with over three weeks left in the transfer window, we have to remain calm and trust the process.
THINK YOU KNOW NEWCASTLE? WHO IS THIS FORMER MAGPIE?
