Amidst the depression of watching the England World Cup qualifying match last night, it was plain to see that a player in the mould of Jonjo Shelvey was desperately being cried out for.

His ability to pick a pass, link up play and get forward with ease is our gain and the national team’s loss but he’s no secret aside from the controversial moments.

Like many players in our history or any up this neck of the country, they get overlooked and players who live down South just picked on the basis of the location of their home ground. It’s been a joke for years.

At one point in my life it would fill me with honour if any one of our lot was linked never mind chosen to wear the white shirt of England but now it is something that I dont want and I want them as far away from the national game as possible.

People wonder why the national game struggles but if like in our country, certain areas are neglected to help another prosper then you can understand the reluctance to want to help out when the begging cap comes calling.

England can only get things right from now on if they move the home games around the country as if to share it around because to us it is just London FC and they can keep away from our players.

Shelvey still made the news on the back of the England game though with The Chronicle saying that he broke the end of his thumb in training yesterday. An injury that isn’t affecting him from training but there is hope that a new lightweight cast can be fitted in time for our next league game next weekend against Southampton.
