Left winger Victor Fernandez played his first pre-season match against St Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday, and he put in a tidy display.
He played further back than he would usually do, but the 20-year-old still looked the part. He took to Twitter after the game to declare his delight at being picked for the game:

All the best Victor. I suspect you will probably be the one academy player who will breakthrough this season. Keep working hard and I'm sure you will do well

Verdict:
Considering the lack of new signings over the summer, Fernandez could well be given further first time chances as next season wears on.
The 20-year-old has yet to make his senior competitive debut for the club and he will probably have to make a big impression on Rafa in upcoming friendlies to really force himself into the club’s first-team plans.
The forward can play on either wing, or through the middle, and with Kenedy taking one of the wide berths and Matt Ritchie likely taking the other, he’ll probably have to take his chances if he gets the opportunity in cup games.
