When the curtain came down on our last premier league season against Spurs at St James’ Park and the icing put on top of a forthcoming relegation with a 5-1 win, you would be in slight disbelief at who our next opponents would be in the division.
Unless Sky change the fixture date of the 12th August for our first match back in the premier league then 454 days will have passed since that Spurs game when we welcome our first opponents at St James’, Spurs!
I guess we knew we had to play every team in this league home and away but I guess we couldn’t have wished for a better team to start at home against as we may catch them off guard or be at a level where the euphoria carries us home.
After this match, our first away game is at fellow promoted side, Huddersfield Town before we welcome another London club to St James’ in West Ham at the end of August.
Other highlights in the list before the TV companies ruin it include:
30th September – Liverpool (H)
18th November – Man Utd (A)
2nd December – Chelsea (A)
The Christmas fixture list is unkind to an extent with Arsenal Away starting it on the 16th before we face West Ham away on the 23rd, then it’s Man City at home on Boxing Day, Brighton at home on Saturday 30th December and then Stoke away on New Years Day.
We end the season with West Brom at home, Watford away and then Chelsea at home on the last day.
