As Newcastle United fans will be keenly aware, yesterday morning club captain Jamaal Lascelles signed a new six-year deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2024.

With 112 appearances to his name following his arrival from Nottingham Forest back in 2014 – he was loaned back originally – the 24-year-old is a key part of the team and was a huge reason behind our Championship promotion the other year as we returned to the Premier League.
Whilst plenty of fans were certainly welcoming of the news, as the day went on there plenty of other reactions from fans on social media.
Some stated it was a good start and manager Rafa Benitez needed to be next in being tied down to a fresh deal, whereas others focused more in on Lascelles interview after the news was announced where he spoke highly of owner Mike Ashley and how he wanted the fans to get behind the team and cease their criticism.
