It is becoming a trend in the Premier League season of 2018/19 but Newcastle United fans had very little to shout about following our most recent game against Southampton last weekend.

Making the trip to St Mary’s Stadium to face off against a side who can’t buy a goal, plenty believed we wouldn’t have a better chance of registering manager Rafa Benitez’s first win of the campaign but our own goalscoring problems reared its head as we failed to get a single effort on target.

We did manage six off target if you want to look at the positives, but Southampton managed 22 efforts with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka called into action four times. There were few positives, put it that one.

Fans did find some reason for cheer though – midfielder Jonjoe Shelvey.

Shelvey wins a lot of praise for his consistency and effort but he certainly can’t save our season alone, others have to step up and start earning their corn.
