Newcastle’s heroes returned to duty today following their summer break and got straight to work preparing for one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory.

With only 36 days to go until the season kicks off, excitement levels are building amongst the fanbase, only increased by the arrival of Sven Botman and links to some absolutely top-class players. Whether any of these players end up in the Black & White of Newcastle remains to be seen, but the idea that we can be “realistically” linked to players the likes of Neymar is enough to keep the interest levels high. Of course some links are more likely than others – the Neymar link keeps coming back but I don’t think anybody actually expects anything to come of that one – but potential deals for the likes of Amine Gouiri and Gabriel Barbosa still carry the weight of believability.
Even with some interesting friendlies in July, I dare bet that most people just want this month to fly by to get to the Nottingham Forest game and the start of the Premier League.
