That’s All, Folks!

The curtain has come down on the 21/22 Season with Newcastle United finishing 11th, just missing out on a top 10 finish on the last day of the season despite picking up three points by beating Burnley on their own turf and condemning them to life in the Championship next season.

Callum Wilson was the man who broke Burnley hearts, bagging a brace and showing us exactly what we’ve been missing this season while he was injured. It’s actually frightening to think what a player we have on our hands if we can get 30 plus games out of him next season.

It certainly wasn’t a vintage performance by any means, miles away from the display against Arsenal, but a win is a win and the performance doesn’t always matter.

With Brighton demolishing West Ham, Newcastle missed out on appearing in the top half of the final table which would have been nothing short of miraculous. But that’s not to say that 11th place isn’t a monumental achievement, especially given that six months ago the team was rooted to the bottom of the table.

Attention now turns to next season and all of the excitement that brings. Close season is definitely going to be a busy one at St James’ Park with a huge turnaround in players expected. Without a World Cup to distract the fans in the summer, it’s going to be a long three months waiting for the new season where expectations will be much higher than at the start of this campaign, luckily Newcastle will be one of the busiest clubs which will keep fans on the edge of their seats without even kicking a ball.
