The Sun reported yesterday that we are one of four teams pursuing Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.
Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Stoke are also said to be interested in the Republic of Ireland international with the Cherries reportedly seeking £10m for the player. However, Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder has denied that we are interested in the 28-year-old:
Told there’s no truth in the #nufc links today with Harry Arter of AFC Bournemouth.

Although frustrated with the lack of transfer activity, most fans on Twitter are relieved that we are not in for Arter:

Thank god for that!

if he is available Ward-Prowse would be better

Good. He’s bang average

Some still would have liked to have seen the Irishman at St James’ Park:
Of course not! We are in the market for relegated players only

would of been a good signing

It looks certain that there will only be a maximum of two arrivals at the club before the transfer window closes tomorrow. A left-back and a centre-back are believed to be the main targets, while a move for a central midfielder is quite a way down the list of Rafa Benitez’s transfer priorities.
A move for Arter was therefore highly unlikely, especially with Bournemouth demanding quite a sizeable fee. Do you think we should have gone after the midfielder? Let me know in the poll.
