Shields Gazette journalist Miles Starforth has denied reports that the club are interested in signing Stefano Sturaro from Juventus.
Italian website Calciomercato.com reported a couple of days ago that we had offered €15m (£13.2m) for the 25-year-old, but we are not believed to be pursuing the Italian:
Understand that Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro is not one of Newcastle's summer targets. #nufc

Fans on Twitter were mostly relieved that we are not looking to sign the midfielder:
Thank god for that

Which means he’s probably due to sign as the local media don’t seem to have a clue what’s going on

In recent days, Sturaro’s agent has mentioned that we are interested in the Italian international, however, the Chronicle have dismissed this public statement as merely trying to drum up interest in the player.
As we have already signed Ki Sung-Yueng on a free transfer, our focus, for the moment at least, is likely elsewhere with our pursuits of both Alassane Plea and Andros Townsend likely taking precedence.
Hopefully, we’ll look to strengthen the centre of midfield further once Mikel Merino departs, but it doesn’t look like Sturaro will be a target.
