2020 has changed the world forever.

Whether it be the COVID-19 pandemic or the fact water has literally been found on the sunlit surface of the moon, these are unprecedented times we are living in, even if life does eventually return to normality as we used to know it.

Still, while not as important in the grand scheme of things, 2020 has served up only one constant: fruitless takeover sagas for Newcastle United.

After a year in which a Saudi Arabian-led takeover got so close, recent reports from the Shields Gazette have claimed the Premier League have now been handed a legal letter demanding takeover anti-competition disclosure.

Exciting as that may be to hear the wheels of the takeover are still churning no matter how remote a prospect it is, the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has provided further insight. Taking to Twitter, the journalist revealed he was not taking it very seriously based on the legal advice (though it must be said he stresses it is unpaid and unofficial) he has heard.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, this could just be the latest episode in a series that never actually finishes. With so much confusion as to what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s a draining process for fans and those who follow the club, as Edwards states.

Yet another false dawn means we should stop believing the forecasts and wait until things are confirmed. If you’re constantly told the sun will be coming out tomorrow, at what point do you stop looking when you remain in darkness? At what point should we give up caring? Perhaps that point has passed.

Clearly, things just aren’t that easy and the disillusionment with life under Mike Ashley means glimmers of hope are latched onto, but imagine how much sweeter those #cans would taste if they were opened after a surprise.
