Bit of a shock at Vital Towers this afternoon as billionaire businessman Mike Ashley revealed he has bought club president Sir John Hall`s shareholding for £55m. Overall he has 41.6% of the club and has made an 100p a share offer for the club, valuing it at £133m.

Whether Freddie will take the bait, so shortly after proclaiming the club ‘not for sale` is under debate but it seems he doesn`t have much choice as in 8.5% Ashley will have majority control of the club.

Transfer funds will hopefully rise to keep us at the level of the so-called ‘Big 4` and maybe it`ll mean an end to the debt problem. Either way it`s livened up a very slow day in Toon World.
