Lots of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to an update on WOR Flags’ potential return to St. James’ Park.
The fan group who were responsible for the largest crowd-surfing flag ever at a European football ground when we hosted Liverpool last season have been in hiatus this season, as a show of opposition to Mike Ashley’s ownership.
Recently, however, there has been some debate over whether they should return and offer their support to Steve Bruce and the first-team, or if they ought to stay away and stick to their words that only a change in ownership would see their work make its way back into St. James’ Park.
Their pre-game displays were admired by fans around the stadium and received warmly the club’s hierarchy, but it seems a return is not on the cards just yet.
Dan Lycett, a key member of the supporters group, has said, via quotes by the Chronicle: “The majority of lads and lasses in the group who have quit, won’t go back.
“They’re outright refusing to go back. So the core of that group who would put displays on aren’t there anymore, and they’re refusing to go back.
“Personally, I agree with the stance. I haven’t stopped going but the people who have, I respect them for doing so. But I haven’t hit that breaking point yet.”
Should WOR Flags make a return to St. James' Park?
Yes
No
The discussion over whether WOR Flags should make a comeback was sparked in response to the club’s highly debated initiative of handing out 10,000 half-season tickets.
Here are some of the reactions shared to Lycett’s update on WOR Flags stance over coming back to St. James’ Park…
I would personally take it as a betrayal to us fans who have cancelled our tickets if the flags go back, if they do they might aswell paint them all plain white and surrender to cashley.

Support the team, not the regime. The atmosphere can simultaneously be anti-Ashley and pro-NUFC. #NUFC

Don’t boycott the club…..boycott Sports Direct. Lets face Ashley ain’t moving until he gets a concrete, profit-making offer from another consortium, and that’s not happening anytime soon despite what the RonnyGill says everyweek. Support your club!

Totally back their decision to stay away

Surely if people want the flags back then they just start their own group like @worflags did rather than saying they have to come back n do it for them.

Bringing this back would give the wrong impression everything is rosey. When infact the relations between club and fan is at it’s worst!

Why should they or anyone come back I know people say don’t support the regime but if you give money to a business you’re supporting it #Ashleyout #NUFC

In other Newcastle United news, the Toon have been credited with an interest in an £18million man likely set to be sold in January.
