Former NUFC goalscoring hero, Celebrity Fit Club contestant and now a well respected racing trainer Mickey Quinn has come out to slate the reign of Mike Ashley, saying that leaving is about the only right thing he’s managed at the club. Speaking to the Ronnie, Sumo said:

“Ashley going is the best thing that could happen for the club. The fans should thank him for putting money into the club to rid its debt but it stops there. Apart from that, it hasn`t worked well. He`s made a mess, it`s embarrassing. No one likes to see anyone lose money but Ashley has to take it on the chin.

The club needs a foothold to get itself back to where it should be in the game. It needs the stability of a chairman who believes in the club, in the manager, whoever that is, and who understands the city and the fans, their passion and emotion. Who could do any worse? We`re relegated!

These are tough times though – it`s going to cost a lot of money. Season ticket sales are going to be bad enough after relegation, so whatever`s happening with regard to the sale of the club it`s a good bit of PR to press on with putting Alan in place as manager.

It makes good business sense anyway, it`s an attractive carrot to dangle in front of prospective buyers who would want to see the club back in the Premier League as soon as possible.

I scrutinised Alan`s eight games in charge and I wouldn`t change any decision he made. He tried to win games, he wasn`t negative – he played four strikers at times. His players just weren`t good enough, the midfield couldn`t create chances. That`s going to cost a lot of money to rectify.

You need a chairman who`s going to put his money where his mouth is. I`m a bit of an old romantic, but the club has never been as well run since Sir John (Hall) left. I know he wouldn`t come back but you need someone of that ilk.”

Other than the Hall thing I agree with the sentiments Micky lad.
