‘Stop, I don’t want to get excited’ – These Newcastle fans notice one thing from 6 ft 1 ace

Newcastle forward Joelinton has caught the eye of some Magpies supporters for his performance against Hibernian, having endured an eventful debut against Preston North End.

United’s club-record signing came on as a half-time substitute against the Championship opposition, and won a penalty just 36 seconds after entering the action.

Miguel Almiron missed the spot-kick much to Joelinton’s concealed frustration, and Preston would go on to equalise moments before the Brazilian signed from TSG Hoffenheim would give away what proved to be the decisive penalty, after chopping down Patrick Bauer inside the box.

However, against Hibernian, his actions inside the box caught the eye of some Newcastle fans for the right reasons, as he scored his first goal for the Toon to pull us back level, after Hibs’ Stevie Mallan had fired home from Florian Kamberi’s knockdown after nine minutes.

It took United seven minutes to draw level with the Scottish side, with Javier Manquillo providing the assist from the right-flank with a teasing cross toward the edge of the six-yard box.

Joelinton held firm between two Hibs centre-backs to be first to the ball, and calmly slotted it home with the side of his foot.

Sean Longstaff would later put us ahead from 18-yards after he controlled 6 ft 1 Joelinton’s blocked effort, before Jamaal Lascelles would secure the win in the second-half.

Our new number nine caused problems for Hibs throughout the game, though, and demonstrated great hold up play and an ability to turn defenders inside out. But it was his one telling moment in front of goal that caught the attention of these fans…
