“Still in a state of disbelief” – Many Newcastle fans react to club post

|

Many Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after the club shared a throwback post to our 2-1 win over Manchester City in January.

We host Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues at St. James’ Park on Saturday in the early kick-off looking to record successive wins over the Etihad Stadium natives, for what would be the first time we have achieved such since 2003.

Back then, we beat City 2-0 at St. James’ Park in January before recording a 3-0 triumph that November when the Sky Blues returned to the North East.

We were not able to keep a clean sheet the last time Man City travelled to Tyneside as Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after just 24 seconds, but Rafa Benitez’s men did not cave in and were able to mount a second-half comeback.

The result put a sizable dent in City’s title aspirations, despite going on to retain the crown, with Salomon Rondon and later Matt Ritchie from the spot able to capitalise on two defensive lapses.

Rondon pulled the score level after 66 minutes when the Venezuelan, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, reacted first to an Isaac Hayden header to fire past Ederson, before Ritchie would go on to hand us the lead ten minutes from time.

Ritchie had to wait more than two minutes before being allowed to take the spot-kick as Ederson was down receiving treatment, but the Scot held his nerves to hand us a remarkable comeback win.

What will the result be on Saturday?
