“Will not be happy” – Pundit suggests £65,000 a week Newcastle player may push for summer move

|

Newcastle have struggled at times this season because of their poor attack, and former Tottenham player Paul Robinson hints at some possible changes to arise as a result.

In particular, he focuses on the future of Dwight Gayle, who has made a minimal impact on first-team affairs this season, although he did suffer from injury in the opening period of the season.

Despite that, he has started just four league games despite the lack of form of both Joelinton and Andy Carroll, who have a combined total of two goals from 29 and 15 respective league appearances.

The fact the 29-year-old has failed to nail down a first-team place suggests Steve Bruce isn’t his biggest fan, and in truth he just doesn’t fit this Newcastle team and our style of play.

Should Dwight Gayle be moved on in the summer?

Gayle has previously been linked with moves away, with the likes of Leeds and West Brom interested in January, and according to Robinson those teams may possibly reignite their interest.

Speaking about the potential for Gayle to depart in the summer, Robinson told Football Insider:

“If he is struggling to get in the Newcastle team Dwight Gayle will be attracting interest from a lot of places.

“Obviously he did well there, enjoyed it and scored a lot of goals whilst he was on loan. If there was an option to take him back they may look at that. West Brom, like Leeds, are light in that department.

“Gayle will not be happy sat on the bench not playing and West Brom are a potential suitor regardless of whether they are in the Premier League.”

Although Gayle clearly possesses some talent it is clear that he just can’t cut it in the Premier League, at least not for Newcastle.

It is reported that he is on £65,000 a week too which is quite a hefty amount for a bit-part player, and that means Bruce should look to move him on in the summer by actively try and get rid of him this time around.

Robinson also raises a good point about the consequences of having an unhappy player in the camp, which is particularly pertinent for Newcastle since many of our points have been won through hard work this season, with every player doing their best to contribute.

That is another reason to offload Gayle, and hopefully his replacement can allow us to improve upon a shocking return of 25 goals in 29 league games.
