Spurs Sunk!

Three first half goals were enough to see off a gutless Spurs side this afternoon.

Dyer opened the scoring with a curling 20 yard shot which left keeper Paul Robinson playing statues.

Obafemi Martins put Newcastle two up just minutes later, nodding home from close range to make it six goals in six games.

Spurs were able to pull one back when Danny Murphy’s shot took a huge deflection of Steven Taylor.

But the two goal cushion was restored before half time when Paul Robinson failed to hold on to Milner’s free kick. A goalmouth scramble ensued and Scott Parker eventually capitalised, with another close range header.

Spurs struggled to get back in to the game but were sorrowfully lacking in sprit and inventiveness. And if a Spurs side this poor find themselves in 7th in the table, Roeder must be wondering just how far his resurgent Newcastle side can go.

The second half was rather flat as Newcastle looked only to keep hold of their well earned lead.

Indeed the biggest cheer of the half came in the final moments when Pavel Srnicek replaced the seemingly injured Shay Given.

Pav came on to make his 150th appearance for the Magpies and whilst the Geordie faithful enjoyed his run out, they’ll be hoping he doesn’t have to fill in for long.

In the end Newcastle ran out comfortable winners and with four home wins in a row St. James’s park is starting to resemble a fortress again.
