Former Newcastle United hero Jonas Gutierrez has given fans something to celebrate in the 2018/19 Premier League season as he expressed his desire over the weekend to return to the club and ‘fight’ alongside the fans for better days in the near future.
The now 35-year-old spent seven years on Tyneside, making over 200 appearances in our shirt and he chipped in across those years with 12 goals. He had his critics for lower moments, but the Argentine’s all-action displays have sent him into the clubs’ folklore and he’s well-loved amongst many in the fanbase.
I imagine the younger fan, but of a relevant age, will definitely remember his battle against cancer and despite off-pitch issues at that time, he didn’t shirk his responsibilities and still gave his all to help us to survival prior to his ultimate exit from the club.
He took to Social Media on Saturday to send the following message.
Waiting to watch newcastle. Hope one day I could be back, To fight together. Always a geordie . Come on @NUFC

His message went over incredibly well and nostalgia says plenty would welcome someone of his desire back in the first-team given our struggles this year – the more vociferous might even argue for him to get his boots on and to be given a shirt in light of some of the showings we’ve seen given how fondly he is remembered.
