Sean Longstaff may have only played 13 senior games for the Magpies, but reports have suggested Manchester United are poised to make a £25million bid for the midfielder.
According to the Evening Standard, Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw enough in those brief outings to consider the 21-year-old an option worth exploring in the transfer window, as he could develop into a top all-round midfielder.
The Old Trafford outfit were even said to have expressed an interest in Longstaff during the closing weeks of the season, and feel an offer in the region of £25million should be enough to tempt him to ditch his childhood side.
Manchester United’s interest was thought to have come as a surprise to Newcastle chiefs who were focusing on Rafa Benitez’s contract situation, as well, but the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has now shared that there has never even been an enquiry for the North Shields-born star, let alone a bid.
That is not to say there may not be one in the future, but Hope understands we have no reason to expect an offer anytime soon, despite claims that Solskjaer wants Longstaff to be his next holding or box-to-box midfielder.
Hope’s update on the Longstaff situation – which will likely roll on throughout the summer – generated these responses from Newcastle supporters…
But do they have….

You seem to be implying his agent is putting him in the public eye rather than Ashley?
I would say the whole fakeover is designed to divert attention from these sales and Rafa’s exit. pic.twitter.com/JaeU4N6Zqg
