Simon Jordan Defends Newcastle’s Spending

|

TalkSPORT‘s Simon Jordan isn’t exactly known for speaking positively about Newcastle United, it does happen occasionally, but as a fanbase, we tend to pay more attention to him when he talks negatively.

However, today, Jordan has defended Newcastle’s decision to splash the cash on Alexander Isak and has claimed that Newcastle could spend £300-£400 million if they wanted to without falling foul of Financial Fair Play.

In a heated discussion with his co-host, Jim White – more on him in a minute – Jordan said that despite Newcastle briefing the media that their summer transfer kitty would be no more than £60m, the club could spend up to £400m comfortably, but chose to lower expectations in order to move with a degree of stealth in the market.

He rightly points out that the last thing Newcastle want is headlines advertising their riches when they’re already finding it hard enough to negotiate sensible fees for incoming players.

Later on in the debate, Jim White, while passing off the question of Newcastle’s plans to the fans, says that “Alexander Isak will take Newcastle’s spending to £120m in this window. That’s something else, that” as if other clubs haven’t spent way more. It’s shocking journalism and anti-Newcastle bias raising its head again. Other clubs can spend freely, not a problem, even Everton who breached FFP rules and got away with it can spend money without question, but as soon as Newcastle look to spend money, it’s a disgrace.

It’s getting tiresome now but I suppose there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it. People are entitled to their opinions and some people have a good platform on which to spout their terrible ones.
