Reports in Argentina have indicated that we have made an enquiry for Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez. Loca radio station CrossAM (via the Chronicle) said last week that the club were considering a move for the 22-year-old.

However, it is believed that the Uruguayan international has a release clause of €21.5m (£19m) which would likely rule us out of the running for the player.

The imminent £22m sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic could free up funds to make a move possible although a significant portion of that may be spent on the Serbian’s replacement, Salomon Rondon. Still, when we polled fans, a huge majority think we should pursue Nandez:

The Uruguayan plays as a deep-lying midfielder or out wide, which are not positions that Rafa Benitez is focusing his recruitment efforts.

A striker, a fullback and a number 10 are believed to be the team’s priorities this summer. We’ll have to see what happens over the next 10 days.
