Newcastle have already lost their top-two goal scorers from last season and could be about to lose a third, according to The Northern Echo.
They claim Fabian Schar is wanted by Serie A side AC Milan and expects the Rossoneri to make a bid for the Switzerland international.
The report states Milan officials have signaled to Schar’s representatives about a possible switch Italy, and will discuss the Magpies player when they meet to decide their transfer business later this week.
They also claim Marco Giampaolo is looking for a central defender after failing in attempts to sign Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren.
After failing to land Salomon Rondon on a permanent deal and selling Ayoze Perez to Leicester, Schar is now the club’s highest remaining goal scorer from last season.
The 27-year-old joined Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna for £3.6million last summer and made 24 Premier League appearances in his debut season.
The player isn’t only important to the club at the back but he also provides an attacking threat. In last season’s league campaign he managed 5.7 clearances-per-game on top of his four goals and one assist.
The Northern Echo claim Mike Ashley would be eager to do a deal as there would be a profit to be made by moving the centre-back on.
