Are you watching Gareth Southgate?

Just a shame there isn’t a tournament this summer, otherwise this man’s performance might have led to a few selection headaches for the England boss. Or at least I hope it would have done.

I’m talking of course about Jonjo Shelvey. The midfielder got his sixth goal of the season as the Mags came from behind twice to grab a point against West Ham United at St James’ Park, with the midfielder running the show.

He completed 85% of his 74 passes, 3 of which were key passes on top of the all-important second equaliser, earning high praise from boss Steve Bruce after the game:

“If anybody has bought into what we require it’s Jonjo. He’s always been blessed with wonderful football ability but we’ve worked tirelessly on his physical aspects. That’s down to him, the stuff he does has all been good. He’s tried like anything to make it happen.”

Is Shelvey now a guaranteed starter?

Praise that Newcastle fans were more than happy to join in with.

What about you? What did you make of Shelvey’s performance against West Ham?
