Schrodinger’s Transfer Kitty

|

With a week to go before the summer transfer window opens, we happy few who have the honour and pleasure of writing about the great club that is Newcastle United, have had a lot of fun running stories about the latest quality player linked with a move to Newcastle.

Obviously some stories are more believable than others, however they all carry with them some level of interest which makes them worth bringing to the attention of the fans, especially after 14 years of feeding off scraps and ultimately being left starving when the window shuts.

It’s just good to get excited again, some may say carried away, but whatever the reality ends up being, we can’t say that we aren’t having fun.

As fans we have been conditioned to focus on the negative thanks to a certain someone who shall remain nameless ….. Mike Ashley. So when reports started circling that Newcastle’s budget for the summer will only be £60m, that’s the story that we all believed. Conversely, when stories like Howe being interested in Victor Osimhen started doing the rounds, we instantly file them in the “very unlikely” category.

We were told that our budget in January would only be around £50m and we spent double that, so I’d take any suggestions of a budget with a pinch of salt. It seems the owners will spend what they need to spend, but will do so wisely.

For now, until we know all the facts, we will continue seeing stories that contradict. Newcastle’s transfer budget, like Schrodinger’s Cat, exists in two states at once until the box is opened – it is both a meagre amount, and a limitless pot of money and until that window shuts, we won’t know which one it is.
